Dear Readers,
I cordially invite you to read the latest issue of our magazine.
The editorial article refers to the significant and current problems of an effective care system for patients with wounds in Poland. We need a system that should ensure early wound treatment, without weeks of waiting in line for a specialist clinic or multiple visits to emergency departments. A system that will offer patients with wounds multidisciplinary treatment, tailored to their clinical situation, with the possibility of consulting specialists, dieticians, physiotherapists, psychologists, and other team members involved in the overall therapy. An advanced practice nurse should play a key role in operating such a care system for patients with wounds with appropriate training and competence. Then, thanks to the development of outpatient nursing care and home care, the benefits of effective wound treatment would be felt by the patient, their family, and the entire healthcare system. A group of experts working as part of the “Wounds under control” campaign has developed a document entitled “National Agreement for Professional Wound Therapy”, which you can read today by browsing through this issue.
The topics covered in the agreement for Professional Wound Therapy correspond to the work Professional independence of nurses in the care of patients with difficult-to-heal wounds – personal experiences, in which the authors, based on a case study according to the patient-centred care model, draw attention to the current competences of nurses in caring for patients with difficult-to-heal wounds and the need to expand these competences in the near future.
Another paper in the journal covers the treatment of traumatic wounds in orthopaedics using skin grafts. It discusses the nurse’s actions in the perioperative period, with particular attention to the care of the newly formed wound at the graft site and the wound to which the graft was applied.
In addition, you will also find a short study on the role of mental health in the treatment of wounds and scars.
I wish all our readers an enjoyable read.
