Dear Readers,

The annual Scientific and Training Congress of the Polish Wound Management Association took place in Lochow from 6–8 June 2024. The meeting brought together over 500 participants and many medical companies. The scientific programme of the congress was structured to ensure a high scientific level and extensive opportunities for practical sessions to learn about new products and their clinical application.
Sessions with guests from abroad were of great interest. Prof. Hacan Uncu, a vascular surgeon from Ankara, and Prof. Gaye Filinte, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon from Istanbul, both came to our congress in person. Their excellent presentations discussing the extent of medical and surgical assistance to those affected by the recent earthquake in Turkey showed the enormity of their work and the application of modern surgical techniques that work well in such situations. These presentations impressed the session participants with their content and touched their hearts with a view of the suffering and terrible injuries suffered by the people living there.
The online session titled My hardest wound… was designed so that participants could learn about hard-to-heal wounds on different continents, including Europe, the USA, Africa and Asia. The speakers for this session were award-winning, distinguished professors and specialists in wound care. Europe was represented by Prof. Kirsi Isoherranen from Finland, the USA by Prof. Robert Klein, Africa by Prof. Zuliqarali G. Abbas from Tanzania and Asia by Prof. Harikrishna K.R. Nair from Malaysia. Perhaps of most significant of these was the presentation from Tanzania, showing how lower limb amputations can be reduced by 50% in patients with diabetic foot.
The Polish sessions covered topics on wound treatment, from prehabilitation to cancer wounds. However, two of them were the most noteworthy. One dealt with cancer wounds, and the work on a new consensus on the management of cancer wounds was developed jointly by the Polish Wound Management Association (PTLR) and the Polish Oncological Society. Our journal will be able to print these joint findings as early as the end of this year.
The second exciting session, organised in conjunction with the Polish Society of Vascular Surgery, discussed the latest developments in diagnosing and treating chronic limb-threatening ischaemia. As with other societies, combined sessions should continue in the future.
The practical part of the congress included 21 workshops, which participants rated very highly, emphasising their high level and good organization.
In summary, this scientific and training meeting of the PTLR was a tremendous organisational and scientific success, indicating the huge potential of our Society, constantly raising the level of content and cognition of the management of difficult-to-heal wounds. As Editor-in-Chief of “Leczenie Ran | Polish Journal of Wound Management”, observing this tremendous progress in our field of action, I would only expect the willingness of the individual authors of the congress presentations and discussions to pour this information into the formulation of scientific papers, which I would be thrilled to qualify with the editorial board for publication in our journal. We will soon achieve this goal as well!
