Ladies and Gentlemen,

Dear Readers,

We are entering a new era in the creation and development of “Leczenie Ran | Polish Journal of Wound Management”. After years of leadership and setting new directions in the field of wound prevention and treatment, Prof. Arkadiusz Jawień, MD, PhD, DSc, has handed over the editorship of the journal to his successors. This is a special honour for us editors, but also a considerable challenge to meet expectations and ensure the continued development of the journal. On behalf of the new PTLR Management Board and the newly formed Editorial Team, we would like to  express our gratitude for your years of dedicated service to the community and the advancement of science in the field of wound prevention and treatment.

The population of Europe is ageing, and the obesity epidemic and lifestyle diseases increase the risk of angiopathy and related dysfunctions. Slow-healing wounds place a significant burden on the healthcare system, causing a deterioration in patients’ quality of life and incurring substantial costs. We are learning increasingly about them and are becoming increasingly effective in treating them. The care of patients with wounds continues to be underestimated and undervalued. Data obtained from the National Health Fund (NFZ) shows that in 2024, a total of 1248 patients benefited from KLRP-1 (Comprehensive Treatment of Chronic Wounds), for whom 2,664 services were provided. The improved KLRP-2 service was utilised by 520 patients, for whom 2,352 services were provided. KLRP-1 services were provided by 12 facilities throughout Poland, and KLRP-2 by only three centres.

In Poland, approximately 180,000 new cases of cancer are diagnosed each year, and these diseases account for approximately 100,000 deaths annually. Approximately 80% of all cancer patients require surgical treatment. Cancer patients are increasingly treated with combined therapy. The occurrence of surgical site infections and skin function disorders resulting from oncological treatment are topics that we would like to explore in our journal. We are aware of the need to strengthen efforts to care for patients with wounds through better evaluation of procedures, expansion of competencies, standardisation and accessibility of care, and the creation of a network of facilities specialising in wound treatment.

We are observing growing interest in wound prevention and treatment among medical professionals. We are interested in your research results and clinical observations. We encourage you to publish and share your knowledge in this area, bearing in mind the interdisciplinary nature and transparency of our daily professional struggles.

I would like to thank all readers for their interest in our journal and warmly encourage them to share their scientific achievements and clinical work with us.

Council of the “Leczenie Ran | Polish Journal
of Wound Management”
